• Promoting composting as a key component of a just, sustainable, and community-led food system.

• Advancing compost-supportive land use policies and zoning regulations in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

• Supporting the development of local composting infrastructure through partnerships with municipalities, haulers, and community organizations.

• Educating the public and decision-makers on the environmental and economic benefits of community-scale composting.

• Working with City and County governments to integrate composting into Zero Waste planning, climate action goals, and food system investments.

Land Access Subcommittee

Group Focus

• Agriculture as a “highest and best use” of vacant lots, providing access to resources to support urban farming

• Providing long-term protection for urban agricultural land

• Educating the public on urban agriculture zoning code regulations and processes

• Working with the City of Pittsburgh to adjust current land-use policies and urban ag zoning laws.
