The Greater Pittsburgh Food Action Plan
Greater Pittsburgh Food Action Plan (GPFAP)
The GPFAP is a community-driven policy roadmap for building a more just, sustainable, and resilient regional food system, prioritizing healthy, affordable food for all. This page houses the plan, progress updates, and related resources.
Vision: A regional food system rooted in collaborative, community-based decisions that prioritizes equity and supports the health of our people, our natural resources, and our economy.
The Challenge
Many families in the region face barriers to healthy food, rising prices, limited grocery access, and transportation gaps, with the greatest impact falling on low-income communities, Black and Brown residents, seniors, and people with disabilities. GPFAP focuses on long-term solutions including improving access and affordability while strengthening local farms, food businesses, and jobs.
Goals
Improve coordination across regional food systems resources
Center equity and environmental stewardship in a healthy food system
Support a robust regional food economy that benefits all
Increase access to nutritious, affordable, local food
Build community power through food sovereignty
