Regional Food Economy

The Regional Food Economy (RFE) Working Group’s goal is to strengthen regional economies that support community-owned food businesses; break down barriers and increase opportunities for local food procurement, and ensure dignity and equity for workers and their families.

This group focuses on food Entrepreneurship and addressing issues of:

  • Institutional food procurement and making it as simple as possible for local institutions to purchase locally.

  • Worker dignity, fair wages, and equitable working conditions for all food workers.

  • Education of local businesses about pertinent regulations to help their businesses thrive.

The regional Food Economy working group is currently led by Nick Goodfellow, Sustainability Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh, and Nicole Muise-Kielkucki, Director at Fourth Economy.
