Community Compost Drop-Off Pilot -@ Lawrenceville Farmers Market -
When: Every Tuesday, October 21 – November 25, 3:00–7:00 PM
Where: Lawrenceville Farmers Market, 115 41st St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201
Why Compost?
Composting is the natural process of recycling organic matter, such as food scraps and leaves, into a valuable fertilizer that enriches the soil and supports plant growth.
Instead of sending your scraps to the landfill, composting returns nutrients to the earth, reduces methane emissions, and builds healthier, more resilient soil right here in our communities.
When we compost, we’re not just cutting waste; we’re helping to close the food loop and create a more sustainable local food system.
Who can participate
This pilot is open to Farmers Market shoppers and vendors only.
What we accept
Vegan food scraps only; fruit and veggie scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves (no staples), bread, grains, and other plant-based leftovers.
Not accepted: meat, dairy, bones, oily foods, or plastic.
How It Works
Bring your vegan food scraps while you shop.
Look for the Compost Drop-Off Site signage at the market.
Empty your scraps directly into the collection bucket. (Please take your container or bag home unless it’s compostable.)
That’s it, thank you for helping us turn scraps into soil!
Pilot Details & Capacity
Because this is a small pilot project with a limited budget, collection is as space allows. Once the buckets are full, we unfortunately can’t accept more material that day.
